IDJ Dave Seaman Interview February 2008

What will you be doing at WMC this year?
I'm doing a party with Nick Warren at Shine on the Saturday 29th. 16 Bit Lolita's, Stel, Hybrid and Jody Wisternoff are also on the bill.

Are there any big tunes you wish to rock out there?
Well I'm hoping my own new single 'Gobbledygook' will have some sort of impact. But the new Pryda of course will be massive for sure. As will Sebastien Leger's new version of Knights Of the Jaguar, Smith & Selways mix of Jamie Stevens 'Keep Her Space' and the new Deadmau5 stuff he's done with Tommy Lee.

How has the WMC changed over the years?
Oh God, it's changed beyond belief. I've been to about 15 or 16 since the late 80s and back then it was really just about a load of DJs and record pluggers exchanging vinyl and contacts around the pool at the Fountainbleu Hotel. There was literally only one or two parties each night to go to. it really was an industry thing. There were no clubbers apart from the Miami regulars. Nowadays, you've pretty much got a choice of a dozen parties to got to any time of the day or night and thousands of people fly in from all over the world. I'm not sure it's as important now though as it was say 10 years ago. Back then if your track was big at Tenaglia's night at Groovejet, you could probably guaranatee it was going to go on to be one of the tracks of the year. With the turnaround of music becoming even faster i don't think WMC has the same influence as it used to.

Give us 5 essential things to do at the WMC…1.Take a drive down to Florida keys for a day to get away from the madness and recharge your batteries. It's a beautiful drive and there's loads of places to stop off along the way.
2.The Everglades is only an hours drive away too where you can hire a little tin pot boat and cruise down Alligator Alley. Not for the faint hearted!
3.Visit Monterano's in Fort Lauderdale. About 45 minutes away. It's the best Italian food I've ever eaten. In fact, it's so good when the makers of the Soprano's were filming a series they used to pay to close the restaurant down and have the chef cook exclusively for everyone on the set!
4.Make sure you have a night out at Space and end up spangled on the Terrace at 10am.
5. Come to our party at Shine at The Shelbourne Hotel on Saturday 29th and have the time of your lives!
Give us 5 essential things not to do at the WMC…
1.DO NOT go straight out into the sun for too long without sunblock after a night out. You really don't realize how hot it is until that evening when the local fish restaurant start chasing you and thinking they've caught the mother of all lobsters!
2. Do not get too hammered on the first night. I know it's easier said than done when you arrive in Miami and feel like a kid in a sweet shop but remember it's a marathon not a sprint.
3. Do not get on the plane home and realize you've only seen the inside of clubs and your hotel room.
4. Do not leave everything to chance. It's the busiest week of the year in Miami so be organized. Have a car/room/restaurant table, etc pre booked and book taxi's in advance wherever possible.
5. Do not miss our show at Shine at The Shelbourne Hotel on Saturday 29th.
Would you say the WMC is more punter driven these days?
Definitely. But I think that's a good thing. This kind of event shouldn't be exclusive to the music industry. Like everything good in the world, it should be shared.

Sum the WMC up in 3 words
An Ibizan summer season exported to America and condensed into one week. That wasn't 3 was it? Sorry.
